The Marlboro Man
The Marlboro Man is a rugged, handsome cowboy who has been featured in tobacco advertising campaigns for Marlboro cigarettes since 1954. The ads were originally conceived as a way to popularize filtered cigarettes, which at the time were considered feminine. The campaign was a huge success, and the Marlboro Man became one of the most iconic figures in advertising history.
The Marlboro Man has been portrayed by a variety of models over the years, but the most famous is probably the late actor, Wayne McLaren. McLaren died of lung cancer in 1992 at the age of 51.
In recent years, the Marlboro Man has become less popular, as more and more people are aware of the dangers of smoking. However, the Marlboro Man still remains a powerful symbol of American masculinity.
